WWE Legend Denies Retirement : Stratus and Lita Talk
In the ever-evolving world of professional wrestling, the word “retirement” often feels like a temporary break rather than the end. Wrestling legends like Mick Foley, Terry Funk and Ric Flair all announced their retirement and returned to the ring several times. This policy means that for many boxers, the thrill of the ring is too compelling to give up boxing altogether.
WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus epitomizes this sentiment. When Stratus originally retired in 2006, the allure of the rounded triangle became too strong, leading him to return to various sports over the years. Most recently, she embarked on a full-time run in 2023, reigniting her in-ring career with a notable feud with Becky Lynch.
In a recent Q&A, Stratus discussed their illustrious careers and future prospects with longtime friend and fellow WWE legend Lita and when the conversation turned to retirement, Stratus’ response was playful and it was revealed.
“Retirement? What is retirement? I’m not familiar with this word. I don’t know anything about this word. We just stay ready. That’s a general statement that we [Trish & Lita] like to live by, just in case,” Stratus quipped, reflecting her undying passion for wrestling.
Lita, echoing Stratus’s sentiments, emphasized the unpredictable nature of professional wrestling and the need for constant readiness. “Which is good because you don’t usually have a lot of heads up on what you’re doing or what the plan is, and if you did, it most likely will change. It kind of informed myself to never get too excited until you walk through the curtain. It could change five times between when you’re presented with an idea to when it’s executed.”
This candid discussion highlighted the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of professional wrestling, where policies can change dramatically in a bout. The words of Stratus and Lita show that their passion for wrestling is undiminished and that they are always ready for any opportunity that may come
Trish Stratus vs. Lita : At WrestleMania 40 almost
In an interesting revelation, Stratus and Lita revealed that they were originally scheduled to appear at WrestleMania 40. The plan was to appear in the Hall of Fame section on the second night of the event however this plan was changed at the last minute and ultimately nixed.
The Hall of Fame class of 2024, which included iconic names such as Paul Heyman, Muhammad Ali, Bull Nakano, the US Express, Lia Maivia, and Thunderbolt Patterson, had a notable void with the absence of Stratus and Lita.
Trish Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013, while Lita followed suit a year later. Their legacies are firmly cemented in wrestling history, yet their recent comments suggest that they may not be done creating new memories in the ring.
