Impact has been wholeheartedly embracing the Forbidden Door concept from Kenny Omega’s Impact World Championship win in AEW to Tony Khan commercials and Tomohiro Ishii vs. Josh Alexander battles, and more. In consequence, they have put on special Multiverse shows which feature otherworldly talent. To take it up a notch, Impact and NJPW recently established the MultiVerse United brand; the upcoming edition is set to take place on August 20th in Philadelphia, PA. Not long ago, Impact announced the first confirmed NJPW Superstar for that show.
Multiverse United 2: For Whom the Bell Tolls will feature Hiroshi Tanahashi.
As a replacement for the injured Will Ospreay, Tanahashi wrestled “Speedball” Mike Bailey at Multiverse United: Only the STRONG Survive. Tanahashi prevailed.
It’s clear that Tanahashi needs his next opponent, and his recent bout with Bailey was a first-time matchup; continuing this trend would be interesting. Alex Shelley has experience in tag team battles against Tanahashi, though never faced him one-on-one. On the other hand, Nick Aldis may have already challenged the new Impact World Champion at Slammiversary on July 15th by then. We’ll be happy whatever route Impact decides to go down; Tanahashi against Aldis or Shelley would make for a great contest.
With Hiroshi Tanahashi potentially in the ring at Multiverse United 2: For Whom the Bell Tolls, it would be wise to avoid matching him with the Impact world champion if we’re wanting him to come out on top. Moose and PCO could make intriguing opponents however; their unique styles have us envisioning a monster movie-like matchup. The pair have already crossed paths in tag team contests back in 2016 so there’s chemistry between them.
Why not get your tickets on Friday June 16th and see which wrestler comes out on top? Don’t forget to check out which other NJPW stars will crossover for the show!
