AEW fans are familiar with Darby Allin’s fearless and frequently reckless in-ring style. Allin’s professional wrestling journey has been unpredictable due to his daring moves and unwavering spirit. Yet, recent developments have introduced a fresh element to his narrative, brimming with injuries and unforeseen obstacles.
A high-flying disaster
Allin’s resilience was tested like never before when a routine wrestling match turned into a series of unfortunate events. During a bout with Jay White, Allin suffered a broken foot—a setback that, while significant, was manageable in his eyes. But as fate would have it, his recovery would be anything but straightforward.
“I was about to climb Mount Everest,” Allin shared in an emotional recount of the incident. The ambitious plans were abruptly halted when the injury took a toll on him. As if the broken foot wasn’t enough, Allin’s recovery took another drastic turn when he was struck by a bus. “It was like something out of a movie,” he reflects, “one injury after another, hitting me hard.”
From broken foot to broken nose
The drama didn’t end there. Allin’s troubles continued when he participated in the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing. Known for its chaotic and dangerous nature, the match proved to be another crucible of pain. “I got superkicked in the face,” he recalls, “but this wasn’t just any superkick. The shoes had thumbtacks glued to them. Imagine that!”
The combination of the kick and the thumbtacks left Allin’s nose in a state of disarray. “My nose blew up like a faucet,” he describes, “and I had to pull thumbtacks out of my lip right after the match. It was a mess.” The severity of the injury was such that Allin was rushed to the hospital, fearing the worst for his already damaged nose.
Navigating recovery
The aftermath of the injury brought a new set of challenges. Allin’s nose, which had already endured a bus collision, now faced further complications. “I had to get clearance from my nose doctor before the match,” Allin explains. “He signed me off but said ‘be careful.’”
Returning to the ring and facing the reality of his injuries meant confronting his medical team once more. “It was an awkward conversation,” he admits. “Explaining how I ended up re-injuring my nose wasn’t easy. The frustration and embarrassment were palpable.”
Despite these challenges, Allin remains undeterred. His dedication to wrestling and his supporters is clear as he maneuvers through this challenging time. “It’s just a part of the adventure,” he declares with a resolute sparkle in his eye. Each obstacle is simply a stepping stone to a recovery.
The path in front
While Allin recovers, his fans are anxiously anticipating his comeback in the ring. The obstacles he has encountered enhance the respect and admiration he earns from the wrestling community. His tale demonstrates the unpredictable aspects of professional wrestling and the immense determination needed to conquer challenges.
Allin contemplates that wrestling involves more than just high-flying maneuvers. “It is all about refusing to give up, enduring the suffering, and emerging even more powerful afterwards.”
The path to healing is always challenging, but with Allin’s resolute determination, he will certainly come back to the wrestling arena even stronger. His adventure is not finished yet, and spectators can anticipate even more exciting moments upon his return.
