Jinder Mahal drew a lot of attention earlier this year when he competed for the WWE World Heavyweight Title on RAW. Despite a valiant effort, he lost and didn’t do much more before being released by WWE back in April. With the release, Mahal has now revealed what WWE had planned for him prior to his exit, shedding light on a complex back-story that fans rarely see
From applicants to managers
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Jinder Mahal shared news about his WWE release in April. He recalled that he was not considered an active wrestler when he was a part of Sindhusher, a revelation that surprised many of his fans Mahal said he saw a roster sheet listing him only as a senior and not an active male heel. He even asked a writer if there had even been talk of him taking up boxing again. The secretary informed him that was indeed the case and the plan was for him to remain manager, which was WWE policy.
To remain ready despite obstacles
Despite that, the fort remained in shape and remained ready for the wrestling season. He pitched various events and matches for himself but none gained traction until he finally had a world heavyweight title match against Seth Rollins. His dedication to the sport and the relevance of the ring is a testament to his passion for boxing.
“I always stay ring-ready. In fact, when I was managing Sindhusher, when we were hired to go on Raw, I was told that I was not a wrestler but just a manager. But I still stay in shape. Yeah, yeah, yeah (I was told that) because I was pitching. Well, the secretary told me. I was pitching all kinds of story lines, like a six-man tag or a match for me where Sindhusher dominated me and I asked the writer, and I said, ‘What’s the deal?’, I also know this because I saw the roster sheet . . .: Men’s Clothes, Raw, SmackDown Men’s Clothes, Tag Team. My name was not written on men’s waists. The men’s heel tag teams, Sindhu Sher, and I were in the brackets. Thus, as a managerial role,. So I wasn’t even listed as an active talent and when I asked the writer, I said, ‘Hey, what’s the conversation about me not doing boxing anymore?’ is just going to take care of Sindhu Sher.’”
