Randy Orton fought Gunther in the King of the Ring finals last month, but he lost and got hurt badly, so he had to take some time off from the ring. When he came back on the June 14th episode of SmackDown, the crowd went crazy.
How the King of the Rings story changed things
After his tough match with Gunther, Orton needed to have his knee carefully checked out, which is why he was out of action for a while. At this point, Kevin Owens joined forces with The Street Profits to fight The Bloodline in later events, taking Orton’s place after he got hurt.
SmackDown had a dramatic main event
The one-on-one match between Kevin Owens and Solo Sikoa was the main event of Friday Night SmackDown on June 14. Owens looked like he was going to win until Paul Heyman got in the way, which cost him a terrible loss. Right after that, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa attacked Owens very badly, making the scene very chaotic and unclear.
Surprisingly, Randy Orton made his successful return after three weeks away by racing to the ring to help Kevin Owens defend himself against The Bloodline’s attack. The crowd cheered when Orton came back into play and made an instant effect.
Orton and Owens in an exclusive interview
Kevin Owens and Randy Orton talked about Orton’s return to the ring in a SmackDown exclusive. In the beginning, Owens called what happened a moral win and asked Randy Orton if they could be pals. Orton replied that they were getting there, even though he knew they still had a ways to go.
Orton said that his signature move is “out of nowhere,” and he talked about how much he loves Scotland and Drew McIntyre, who is from Scotland. Orton said he went all the way to Scotland to help Owens and called Owens a friend, acquaintance, or buddy.
Trade-in between Owens and Orton
Kevin Owens: “It was a victory for the right reasons.” Are you my friend? Do you think that’s a true statement?”
He said, “I think we’re getting there.” We still have a ways to go. I like coming up with ideas out of the blue, so I thought, “Hey, we’re in Scotland tonight; I love Scotland.” Even better, Drew is from Scotland. What can I say? I love Drew. I thought I’d come all the way over here to help my friend, acquaintance, buddy, or whatever you want to call them.
After some jokes about Orton’s trip to Scotland, he finally admitted that Owens was his friend, even though he had been trying to keep it cool at first. After that, Owens said bad things about the Bootleg Bloodline, and both men agreed that they wanted to get even.
Orton took back what he had said earlier and said that they were friends. He also said that he was trying to keep his cool. Owens said again that they both felt bad about the Bootleg Bloodline. Then they talked about a recent match. Orton said Owens had the match won until Paul Heyman stepped in and lifted Solo’s foot onto the rope. Owens couldn’t believe how strong Heyman was, and Orton agreed, even though he didn’t think it was possible at first.
“I want to correct what I said earlier,” Randy Orton said. We’re friends. Being cool is what I’m trying to do. What do I say? We are friends, though. I haven’t had many friends around here.”
Kevin Owens: “What do you think? The fake bloodline is awful. We also agree with that.”
Randy Orton: “Man, you should have won that match. Paul Heyman stepped on Solo’s foot.”
Owens: “I can’t believe Paul Heyman had the physical strength to lift a man’s leg high enough to put it on the rope.”
Randy says, “I didn’t think it was feasible, but it happened.”
