Jeff Hardy Talks About the WWE Match That Almost Put His Career on the Line
During a recent visit to “Busted Open Radio,” Jeff Hardy relived a terrifying moment from his early days of professional wrestling. The particular match that is being discussed? A high-stakes match against WWE superstar Razor Ramon, played by Scott Hall, left the impressionable Hardy completely “scared.”
Hardy faced Hall, a future WWE Hall of Famer, in the ring at the tender age of sixteen. For Hardy, who was battling the extreme pressures of the wrestling industry at the time, the encounter was more than just a fight; it was a turning point in his career. Hardy provided a clear description of the difficulties he encountered in his own words:
“When I think about that match, I just know that the ring back then was so hard. I was probably 185-190 pounds, and oh, it was so hard. We had never been in it before, and he [Scott Hall] was stiff with a few things. I was 16, just terrified, you know? It was just rough.”
The intensity of the bout was overwhelming for the teenage Hardy. He admitted that the experience was so grueling it made him question his future in the sport. Hardy reflected on this challenging period:
“When it was over, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t ever want to do that again.’”
Despite the emotional and physical toll of the match, Hardy’s passion for wrestling was reignited just one night later. During a subsequent match against Sean Waltman, known at the time as the 1-2-3 Kid, Hardy found his love for the sport renewed. He described this experience as transformative:
“It just refilled my soul; it was fun again,” Hardy noted.
This crucial occasion not only reignited Hardy’s love for wrestling but also set the stage for his subsequent ascent to prominence in the business. It was evidence of his tenacity and commitment, attributes that have come to characterize his illustrious career.
Another recent development was the disclosure by Hardy’s brother, Matt Hardy, of some information on Jeff’s reason for leaving All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Matt claims that although Jeff’s prior contract was almost up, he felt ignored by AEW because the business did not try to negotiate a new one. As a result of feeling undervalued, Matt approached TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling), who indicated interest in hiring Jeff after his AEW contract ended.
