Jeff Hardy will forever be remembered as one of the most popular tag-team wrestlers. Despite finding success in wrestling, he has encountered numerous obstacles in his personal life, especially his battles with addiction. These issues have affected his career at various points, leading to his recent suspension from All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and his determination to overcome challenges before returning to competition.
Despite this commitment, both Jeff and his brother Matt Hardy gradually faded from AEW’s programming, eventually departing the company altogether. The Hardy Boyz returned to TNA during the Against All Odds event, surprising fans expecting a comeback to WWE. Their surprising comeback at WrestleMania 33 is still considered one of the most unforgettable and booming occurrences in WWE’s past. However, few know that Jeff Hardy harbored some dissatisfaction with that iconic return. Why? Let’s delve into it.
Jeff Hardy wanted some changes to their entrance
The Hardy Boyz’ comeback at WrestleMania 33 was a perfect moment for numerous fans. The combination of The New Day’s anticipation, the loud response from the crowd, the shocked expressions from other wrestlers, and their quick win in their return match resembled an ideal situation. As Homelander from “The Boys” might say, “It was perfect—everything right down to the last minute detail.” But Jeff Hardy saw a flaw in this otherwise perfect picture: the music.
During an appearance on the Busted Open Podcast, Jeff Hardy revealed his desire to modify their iconic theme song before their return. He shared, “To be honest, the first time we went back at WrestleMania 33, I remember talking to Jericho after and I was like, yeah, man, it was pretty cool. Even though they played that old a*s Hardy Boyz music. And I was and still this day, I was looking so forward to like modest hitting. I’ve done this thing with the Hardy Boyz music slowing down. It’s like, don’t don’t don’t don’t. But then it kicks in the modest, which would have as my original TNA theme. And still in the future, I think that can like happen for sure. But I’m kind of tired of that. Hardy Boyz music really tired of it, to be honest.”
The fans’ perspective on the Hardy Boyz’ theme
The original Hardy Boyz theme is iconic to many wrestling fans, and any change might have been met with resistance. The nostalgic tune brings back memories of their high-flying antics and championship victories. Fans might argue that altering such a legendary theme would strip away some of the magic associated with the Hardy Boyz’ legacy. Many believe this theme should be used when they are eventually inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, an honor that seems inevitable given their contributions to the sport.
Jeff Hardy’s struggles and redemption
Jeff Hardy suffered another setback in his career in 2022 by signing with AEW following his release from WWE. His time at AEW was eclipsed by personal problems, such as being arrested for driving while intoxicated. These troubles derailed the company’s plans for him, and eventually, Hardy parted ways with AEW. Reflecting on his time there during a recent Busted Open Radio interview, Hardy expressed feelings of guilt and shame over how his struggles impacted his professional life.
“The company placed trust in me, and I didn’t know how to take advantage of the opportunity they offered,” Hardy admitted. However, he remains optimistic about his current role in TNA and views it as a chance for redemption. He stated, “Definitely (my goal in TNA) is to win the TNA Tag Team Titles, basically because I have so much guilt and shame within me still just from AEW giving me an opportunity and even Matt (Hardy) to me breaking trust with my personal issues in real life and so I just wanna make that up to Matt and I can say right here that I will not break TNA’s trust. That is in my past and it feels good to have somewhat of a clean slate with all that stuff and kind of start fresh instead of having that guilt and shame about what I did in a certain world of pro wrestling.”
The future for the hardy boyz
Both Jeff and Matt Hardy have the chance to rejuvenate their careers in TNA and possibly end their impressive journey on a positive note. Fans are pondering the potential return of the Hardy Boyz to WWE, whether it be for a Hall of Fame induction or another run with the company. Regardless of future uncertainties, the brothers are dedicated to taking advantage of their current opportunity and restoring their image in the wrestling world.
