What happened
Forbidden Door 2026 had no title changes, but it decided the two tournaments that shaped the rest of AEW’s summer. Will Ospreay beat Swerve Strickland to win the men’s Owen Hart Cup and Mercedes Moné beat Maya World in the women’s final; both converted their title shots at All In at Wembley on August 30.
The steel cage story: Mark Briscoe pinned MJF to win the 12-man cage match for Team Briscoe and earn an AEW World Championship match, and Andrade El Ídolo turned on MJF during the night. MJF lost the title to Kenny Omega on July 8, ten days later.
Our take
Forbidden Door works best when the cross-promotional matches mean something, and this year’s Kenny Omega vs. Zack Sabre Jr. did — Omega’s win started the run that took him to the world title. Booking Ospreay vs. Swerve as the closer over the cage match was the correct choice; tournament finals end shows well.
