Every match: our commentary

PWG All Star Weekend 11 · Dec 2015

Kenny Omega won · Pinfall · Reseda, California

Their first meeting came when Ospreay was 22 and an emerging independent star and Omega was about to become New Japan's top foreign wrestler. Omega won.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 · Jan 4, 2023

Kenny Omega won · One-Winged Angel · Tokyo Dome, Tokyo

Ospreay had spent months questioning Omega and even used the One-Winged Angel himself. In the Tokyo Dome they produced a match of relentless near-falls and dangerous moves, and Omega finally hit the real One-Winged Angel to win the title. It was rated one of the best matches of 2023 by most critics.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door · Jun 25, 2023

Will Ospreay won · Pinfall after Don Callis interfered · Scotiabank Arena, Toronto

In Omega's home country, Ospreay regained the title after Omega's former manager Don Callis turned on him and hit him with a screwdriver. Ospreay has said the interference bothers him, and Omega has used it ever since to argue Ospreay never beat him alone.

AEW All In: London 2026 · Aug 30, 2026

Will Ospreay won · Pinfall · 34:25 · Wembley Stadium, London

Omega had won the AEW World Championship from MJF on Dynamite in July. Ospreay, in front of his home crowd of more than 41,000, ground out a 34-minute main event of counters to each other's signature moves and won the title cleanly, settling the Forbidden Door argument.

The backstory

When Omega left New Japan for AEW in 2019, Ospreay rose to take his place and became IWGP World Heavyweight Champion in 2021. The rivalry is about legacy: Omega doubted Ospreay could fill his role, and Ospreay said he had carried New Japan through a hard period and suggested Omega had kept him out of AEW.

In the build to All In 2026, Omega questioned whether Ospreay could handle the pressure of a stadium main event and brought his son into the argument; Ospreay attacked him after a Dynamite main event and was put through a table.
