What happened
The NWCA National Duals are now a multi-division championship rather than a Division I showcase: the 2026 edition at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls crowned seven champions across NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and women’s wrestling in 261 duals over two days.
The Division I bracket went to the home team, Northern Iowa, which beat South Dakota State 20-14 in the final. The Panthers’ win is a reminder that the event now serves programs outside the national title race, which is exactly its value: dual-meet championships for teams that do not get them anywhere else.
Our take
the closest final of the weekend was Roanoke’s 19-16 win over Wartburg in Division III, and North Central’s 21-18 win over McKendree in the women’s bracket was the best evidence yet of how deep NCAA women’s wrestling has become.
