What happened
Canada’s Mike Malott turned a home main event in Edmonton into the knockout of his career, dropping Joaquin Buckley face-first with a knee in the second round. Buckley came in as one of the division’s most dangerous strikers; Malott takes his place in the queue.
The co-main event was the bigger upset. Jasmine Jasudavicius, another Canadian, outpointed Erin Blanchfield on all three cards (29-28). Blanchfield’s grappling has carried her past most of the division; Jasudavicius neutralised it, and the win puts her into contention at 125 just as Natalia Silva has become the new face of the division.
Our take
Fight Nights in Canada tend to over-deliver for the home fighters, and the two Canadian headliners both won. Five of six main card bouts ended inside the distance.
