What happened

Mitchell Hooper won World's Strongest Man for the second time in April 2026, three years after his first title at the same Myrtle Beach venue. The margin was two points over defending champion Rayno Nel, who won three of the five final events and still finished second.

How Hooper won without winning an event in the final: strongman is scored by placings in each event, not by event wins, and Hooper’s consistency — high finishes everywhere — beat Nel’s peaks. Trey Mitchell won the last two events, including the Atlas stones, to secure third.

Our take

this is the most competitive top two in the sport. Nel is the stronger athlete in raw lifts; Hooper is the more complete one across moving events, and WSM’s event mix rewards completeness. Tom Stoltman, a three-time champion, missing the final podium is the clearest sign yet that the sport has a new top tier.
