What happened
Riyadh Season, backed by Turki Alalshikh, has staged many of boxing’s biggest cards since 2023. Its most recent major card, The Ring V in December 2025, was built around Naoya Inoue, who made the sixth defense of his undisputed super bantamweight title with a wide decision over Mexico’s David Picasso in his Saudi debut.
The best Riyadh card of the era remains The Last Crescendo in February 2025: Dmitry Bivol avenged his only loss by beating Artur Beterbiev on a majority decision to become undisputed light heavyweight champion, and the undercard produced Agit Kabayel’s knockout of Zhilei Zhang — the win that made Kabayel WBC interim and, in June 2026, full WBC heavyweight champion.
Our take
Riyadh’s model — stacked cards, champions fighting each other, no promoter politics — is good for fans and has produced genuine fights that the traditional system would not have made. The concern is concentration: when one backer controls the biggest events, the sport depends on his priorities.
