What happened
Slammiversary 2026 in Boston produced four new champions, headed by Nic Nemeth’s second TNA World Championship win at the expense of Mike Santana.
The Ultimate X opener was the best match on the card on paper, with Cedric Alexander retaining against six challengers including Slater and Amazing Red. Red won the vacant X Division title at Bound for Glory three and a half months later.
Our take
Santana’s reign was built on his everyman connection with the crowd, and taking the title off him with a veteran like Nemeth only works if the next challenger is someone fans want to see win. TNA delivered that at Bound for Glory, when Leon Slater beat Nemeth. In hindsight Slammiversary was the first half of a two-show story.
