What happened

Penn State won its 14th NCAA team title in Cleveland with 181.5 points, breaking the team scoring record for the third straight year. Oklahoma State finished a distant second with 131, but the Cowboys had the more remarkable individual story: three of their champions — Jax Forrest (133), Sergio Vega (141) and Landon Robideau (157) — were true freshmen.

History made: with Stanford’s Aden Valencia also winning at 149, four true freshmen won national titles in the same year for the first time. Forrest and Vega finished unbeaten.

Our take

Penn State’s dominance is now so complete that the team race is decided in the first session; the interest lies in the individual brackets. Oklahoma State, second here, has the youngest core of champions in the country and is the most credible threat to Penn State’s run in 2027. Minnesota’s Max McEnelly at 184 — who lost the Big Ten final to Rocco Welsh — showed why conference seeding means little in March.
