What happened
Iowa State ran away with the 43rd Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, scoring 183.5 points — 84.5 more than runner-up Michigan — and winning four of ten weights through Evan Frost, Anthony Echemendia, Rocky Elam and Yonger Bastida.
Our take
a margin that large in a 30-team field is a statement, but Las Vegas in December is about December. None of Iowa State’s four Las Vegas champions won an NCAA title in March, and the CKLV remains a better guide to who is in form than to who will win in March. James Conway’s title at 184 for Franklin & Marshall was the feel-good result of the weekend.
