What happened

Penn State won the 2026 Big Ten Championships on its home mat with a school-record 184 points and seven individual champions, 35.5 points clear of Ohio State.

The finals that mattered: Ohio State took two of the three titles Penn State did not win, through Ben Davino’s tiebreaker win over Marcus Blaze at 133 and Jesse Mendez’s 7-2 decision over Brock Hardy at 141. Michigan’s Taye Ghadiali beat Nebraska’s AJ Ferrari 5-2 at heavyweight. Nebraska put five wrestlers in the finals and lost all five, which is both a sign of its depth and a warning about its ceiling.

Our take

two of the closest finals — Rocco Welsh over Max McEnelly at 184 and Davino over Blaze at 133 — were decided on tiebreakers, and one of them flipped two weeks later: McEnelly won the national title at 184. The Big Ten tournament remains the best preview of the NCAA Championships, but not a reliable one.
