What happened
Penn State won the 2026 Southern Scuffle with five champions, and only one of them — Josh Barr at 197 — went on to win an NCAA title in March. The other four (Connor Pierce, Joe Sealey, Will Henckel and Asher Cunningham) were not Penn State’s entries at those weights at the Big Ten Championships, which says more about the team’s depth than any score could.
Our take
the Scuffle has become the event where programs below the very top get real midseason measuring sticks. Little Rock’s third place and Matty Bianchi’s title at 165 were standout results for a young program, and Penn finishing second ahead of Virginia Tech was a strong statement from the Ivy League.
