A fan's guide
Forbidden Door is AEW's dream-match show, pairing AEW stars with wrestlers from New Japan Pro-Wrestling, CMLL and other partners. Matches that could never happen on weekly television — and title defenses involving belts from other companies — are the draw.
In 2026 it also hosted the Owen Hart Foundation tournament finals, giving the show stakes for AEW's own title picture.
Our take
Forbidden Door is the most unpredictable show on AEW's calendar because it mixes rosters. In 2026 it became something more: the venue for the Owen Hart Foundation tournament finals, which shaped AEW's whole summer.
Our view: tying the Owen Hart Cup to Forbidden Door is a smart decision, because it gives a cross-promotional show stakes that matter to AEW's own storylines.
What's next
Forbidden Door 2027 is expected in early summer; AEW and NJPW have not announced a city.
