What happened
Full Gear 2025 in Newark ended with Samoa Joe winning the AEW World Championship for the second time, beating Hangman Adam Page inside a steel cage with help from HOOK. Joe’s reign lasted only 35 days — MJF beat him in a four-way at Worlds End on December 27 — but Full Gear marked the end of Page’s second run with the title.
Three other titles changed hands: FTR won the World Tag Team titles from Brodido, Mark Briscoe took the TNT title from Kyle Fletcher in a no-disqualification match, and Ricochet won the Casino Gauntlet to become the first AEW National Champion.
Our take
the steel cage finish with outside help is a tired device in a cage match, which is supposed to keep people out. But Joe as champion gave AEW a credible, intimidating titleholder for the run to Worlds End, and Kris Statlander’s clean win over Mercedes Moné was the right call at the time — it gave Statlander a signature defense before Thekla took the title from her.
