Penta: from Intercontinental Champion to world title contender
Penta’s year has followed a clear arc. He retained the Intercontinental title in a six-pack ladder match at WrestleMania 42, lost it to Chad Gable at SummerSlam, and has now won the briefcase that guarantees him a world title match at any time in the next year. Beating CM Punk, Kevin Owens and Bron Breakker to the briefcase is the strongest field any Money in the Bank winner has faced in years.
The briefcase can be cashed in on either world champion — Roman Reigns on Raw or Sami Zayn on SmackDown — and history says the best cash-ins come right after a champion has wrestled a long match.
Liv Morgan's second big win of 2026
Morgan won the women’s Royal Rumble in January and the Women’s World title at WrestleMania 42, then lost the title before regaining it here. Her opponents tell the story of the division: Stephanie Vaquer, the champion she had first beaten at WrestleMania, and Becky Lynch, one of the most decorated women in WWE history.

Our take
Money in the Bank 2026 was a strong show with one clear weakness: Roman Reigns over LA Knight was the least competitive world title match on any WWE premium live event this year, and it was booked that way. Knight is popular, but nobody expected him to win, and the match existed to move Reigns on to Crown Jewel.
The briefcase results are both defensible. Penta is the more interesting holder because he has a natural target on each brand; Tiffany Stratton has held a briefcase before, which makes her a safer but less surprising choice.
Oba Femi beating Bronson Reed continues the best year any new wrestler has had in WWE since Bron Breakker’s call-up.
What worked
- Penta won the strongest men’s ladder field in years
- Liv Morgan’s title win pays off a year-long story
- Oba Femi keeps building momentum
What didn't
- Reigns vs. Knight lacked suspense
- Two former briefcase holders in the field made the women’s result predictable
The Money in the Bank record
Since the first ladder match at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, the briefcase has been one of WWE’s most reliable ways to create a surprise title change. Edge cashed in first, on John Cena at New Year’s Revolution in 2006, and the format has since produced cash-ins at almost every kind of event — on Raw, at pay-per-views and immediately after other title matches.
| Holder | Brand | Possible targets |
|---|---|---|
| Penta | Raw (can cash in on either brand) | Roman Reigns (World Heavyweight), Sami Zayn (Undisputed WWE) |
| Tiffany Stratton | SmackDown (can cash in on either brand) | Liv Morgan (Women's World), Chelsea Green (WWE Women's) |
The best cash-ins come right after a champion has wrestled a long match and is vulnerable. Crown Jewel on November 7 — where both world champions and both women’s champions are expected to wrestle each other — is the most obvious opportunity of the autumn, and Survivor Series three weeks later is another.
Grades
| Match | Grade | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Men's ladder match | A- | Deep field, dramatic finish, right winner |
| Women's World title triple threat | B+ | Liv Morgan's year continues; Lynch's presence added stakes |
| Women's ladder match | B | Fun, but the winner was predictable |
| Femi vs. Reed | B | Physical and short; Femi keeps rolling |
| Reigns vs. Knight | C+ | Professional, but nobody believed in a title change |
What's next
Morgan faces WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green for the Women’s Crown Jewel Championship on November 7. Full results are on our Money in the Bank results page.
